EKAMBI LEADS THE DEMOLITION OF VILLARREAL'S AUSTRALIAN VISITORS, RAPID WIEN.

Karl Toko Ekambi scored a goal and provided two assists as Villarreal hammered Rapid Wien 5-0 in Thursday's Uefa Europa League fixture.

Javi Calleja's side secured a comprehensive win at the Estadio de la Ceramica with a dominating display that produced three first-half goals.

Ekambi set up Pablo Fornals for Villarreal's opening goal in the 26th minute. Four minutes later, the 26-year-old doubled the lead with his second effort in the Europa League this campaign.

The Cameroonian forward who switched to the Spanish top-flight outfit in the summer, made it three after heading the ball to the back of the net at the stroke of half-time but it was later adjudged as Mateo Barac's own goal.

Ekambi was involved in four of his side's goal as they ran riot over their Austrian visitors.

After the restart, the former Angers talisman continued his fine display with another assist for Dani Raba who fired in a fourth goal for the Yellow Submarine.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's Samuel Chukwueze was thrown into the fray for Fornals in the 69th minute but the hosts were reduced to 10 men after Jaume Costa was shown a second yellow card in the 79th minute.

Despite the numerical shortage, the Spanish side held their nerves with Chukwueze assisting fellow substitute Gerard Moreno to seal the win with the fifth goal in the 85th minute.

The victory moved Villarreal to the summit of the group levelled on points with Rangers - five points from three games.
